As far as I know, Go-Go is the only music in America native to just one city: D.C.

And while all these other styles come and go and change and flow, D.C. still moves to the Go-Go.

Chuck Brown ("The Godfather of Go-Go"!) invented it but a thousand bands have played it, I bet there's 20 Go-Go shows tonight in D.C. Often associated with violence, shooting and mayhem, just remeber, Go-Go doesn't kill people, people who listen to Go-Go kill people.

One thing about Go-Go: generally the musicians are kickass, and anytime Chuck's involved that's sure to be the case.

Here's one I put up here just a few days ago, but it's a good starting point, it's just from last year...the humor's kinda lame but the song kicks. Here is the Godfather at age 75:

Anybody who can identify all the cameos is my hero. who's the white guy at the card table, Les Paul?

Tipp's got much more gogo experience than I do. I bow to his superior knowledge on the subject.

heh I looked at like 50 RE clips today trying to find the right one, cdlv knows what's up. There's just not a lot on youtube of them.

That Chuck video in the first post needs some love though.

"Sardines and Pork and Beans!"

"Mastercard, Visa, American Express,
Ain't got nothin' 'gainst no credit cards,
But the cash it is the best!"

Here's some live Chuck from last year in NYC, calling out all the DC hoods, he's still got it, "Wind me up, Chuck!"

Kurtis Blow and T Funk; it's early rap set to go-go, it's cool (downright chilly) though:
