Apparently they are a bad idea if they are destined for anywhere but Alaska. But if they are dropped in AK, especially Wasilla -- yee haw! How does 45 grand a head sound for a bridge whose main mission appears to be to enrich a bunch of dirtbags - and a few other folks in Wasilla. And it'll be doubly good 'cause it'll kil a bunch of those pesky whale things. Yeah Sarah - that's where I want my money to go.

Sarah Palin + giant earmarks + gross ethics violations = so hot right now.

Oh, thank god... I wanted to comment on this but am afraid to start another thread about Palin for fear of my life.

The whole new bridge issue, which I'll christen as;
"the Bridge to Palin"
is a project for $600 million for the road and bridge running from Anchorage directly to Wasilla. My math on the whole project; $600,000,000 / 7,000 = $85,714.29 PER PERSON.

Palin supports $600 million 'other' bridge project (http://www.nytimes.com/aponline/washington/AP-Palin-Bridge-to-Wasilla.html?_r=2&oref=slogin&oref=slogin)

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) -- Gov. Sarah Palin may eventually have said ''no thanks'' to a federally funded Bridge to Nowhere.

But a bridge to her hometown of Wasilla, that's a different story.

A $600 million bridge and highway project to link Alaska's largest city to Palin's town of 7,000 residents is moving full speed ahead, despite concerns the bridge could worsen some commuting and threaten a population of beluga whales.

Local officials already have spent $42 million on plans to route traffic across the Knik Arm inlet, a narrow finger of water extending roughly 25 miles northeast of Anchorage toward Wasilla. The proposal exists thanks to an earmark request by Republican Rep. Don Young, whose son-in-law has a small stake in property near the bridge's proposed western span.

A Democratic council member in Anchorage will try Tuesday to spike the city's sponsorship of the project, which Palin supports with some reservations.

''This is basically an incredibly expensive project that doesn't help commuters, doesn't help create jobs and may drive whales to extinction,'' said Justin Massey, an attorney advising environmentalists opposed to the proposal. ''It is also a project that serves the area where the governor is from, which is near and dear to her heart.''

Important fact: Alaska Congressman Don Young's son-in-law owns land on the western side of the proposed bridge over the Knik Arm.

Edit - Tim, the bridge does not go to Wasilla. It goes to Port McKenzie.

Not all of the expected cost is earmarks (only something like two thirds) & Wasilla is kind of growing (so I rounded up a bit to a population guesstimate of ten thousand). In contrast to tim, I figured I'd do the conservative per-resident earmark calculation.... & it still looks like she and her cronies would like the rest of us to send a whole bunch of our money - like $45K for every man, woman and child with a bit to spare - toward Wasilla;)

Maybe Obama should have served his constituency and voted against the bridge. Instead he gave it the green light with his yea vote.

Could be that's why I said;

But since I was relying on the NYTimes and AP for my "facts"... I'm pretty confident that they'd stand scrutiny.
