a new McCain ad cites factcheck.org to say Obama's smearing him...except the ad just got factchecked by factcheck.org

so much for the "Straight Talk Express"

A McCain-Palin ad has FactCheck.org calling Obama's attacks on Palin "absolutely false" and "misleading." That's what we said, but it wasn't about Obama.

Our article criticized anonymous e-mail falsehoods and bogus claims about Palin posted around the Internet. We have no evidence that any of the claims we found to be false came from the Obama campaign.

The McCain-Palin ad also twists a quote from a Wall Street Journal columnist. He said the Obama camp had sent a team to Alaska to "dig into her record and background." The ad quotes the WSJ as saying the team was sent to "dig dirt."

womp womp womp

I think the McCain campaign has successfully squandered any positive bounce they got from the Palin "brand".

Puffery and spin are one thing. The outright lies of the McCain/Palin campaign are a true disgrace. McCain posturing about "honor" and "values" is now a joke. And Palin just repeats the same lies in the script time after time. Lies about the bridge to nowehere. Lies about earmarks. And on and on. And then the campaign deliberately distorts factcheck. Factcheck should demand the McCain campaign run retractions or get sued.

That sounds every bit as bad as lying about having enough experience or having community organizer be a racist term. :FIREdevil

That's what drops my jaw. I figured she'd drop that lie after trying it in her VP acceptance speech & getting nailed for it. I assumed the campaign would write it off as a one-time-only figure of speech didn't-exactly-mean-that oops bygones it was a long flight from AK and that was, like, almost years ago, hey, who can really remember all these details ...

But no - she keeps repeating it. And every time she gets quoted for it, there's the obligatory next sentence pointing out her lie.

An interesting strategery, fer sure.
