Specifically online poker.
Has anyone heard either take a stance on this issue?
I'd guess Obama would be for it, but I could be wrong.

Barak Obama - http://library.pokerplayersalliance.org/2008/08/15/il-response-from-barack-obama-081508/. This seems like political backtalk to me. Just reiterate the laws and say he may look into it in the future.
McCain hasn't come out and said anything to my knowledge but I assume he is going to follow the Repubs stance on it.
So send him a letter, I did (http://capwiz.com/pokerplayersalliance/issues/alert/?alertid=11856431)
You should frequent this site (http://pokerplayersalliance.org/). Lots of good news and info on there and if you got the scratch, become a member. I participate in anyway I can to stop to help our cause.

The fact is the British, and some other non-Americans (can we still call Brits "non-American"?), control online gaming. That's why the US government did what they did - they "like" free markets and capitalism and all that, but only if they're winning.

Err on the side of civility and call them Australian?
Personally I'd hope that neither of them have the a neat prepared position on the subject - it'd reek of lobbying and vested interests?
It is wrong that the governement feels the need to legislate against this stuff. But in the scheme of things it's not that big a deal on my radar.

I'm pretty sure they are both pro-World of Warcraft but both anti-Grand Theft Auto. Hope that helps.

Yes. I think On-Line gambling is the new (CRACK) dude can sit at home and blow the family nestegg in 1 day. No drinks, no nice dinner, Money going to (Who)? where does that money go, does the US collect any tax on that?
I don't know, its getting very big and as someone who does not pay State incometax because of gambling. I would like to see it shut down or highly regulated. But then I don't go near it, so I know Shit about it.

The WPT and Online Poker brought so many people into B&M casinos.
quoted for truth.
Before the 'poker boom' almost single-handedly started by Moneymaker, a nobody who won the WSOP, many rooms were hurting.
Mohegan Sun shut their room down because they were making no money (due to corruption and lack of players). They recently put in a new poker room because Foxwoods was killing them. That casino has online poker, the WSOP and the WPT to thank for the need of a poker room.

Nice find. Too bad he doesn't take a stance.
How can we get them to ask McCain/Obama about it at the debates?

A little off topic but THIS (http://www.kentucky.com/181/story/533470.html) is mildly concerning!
State cracks down on Net gambling
Commandeers 141 playing site domain names
By Jack Brammer
FRANKFORT — Kentucky is commandeering 141 domain names of Internet gambling sites in a novel legal move to crack down on the unregulated industry.
Franklin Circuit Judge Thomas Wingate ordered the names transferred to the state last week, Gov. Steve Beshear announced Monday.
Sites affected include such names as caribbeangold.com and sportsbook.com.
If officials get their way at a Sept. 25 forfeiture hearing, the state will control the domain names and can ask Web registrars to block access to the sites, said Justice and Public Safety Secretary J. Michael Brown.
Kentucky would become the first state to seize a gambling operation's domain name, Brown said.
He acknowledged that such a move could block access to the domains worldwide, but said he was interested only in its effect on Kentucky.
Beshear, who supports allowing casino gambling in Kentucky, called the online operations "leeches on our communities." Kentucky loses tens of millions of dollars a year to online gambling, which is illegal in every state, he said.
"Unlicensed, unregulated, illegal Internet gambling poses a tremendous threat to the citizens of the commonwealth because of its ease, availability and anonymity," Beshear said.
Mike Stone, executive director of the Kentucky Council on Problem Gambling, said his group supports all efforts against illegal gambling.
"Many college students have put themselves at risk for online gambling, especially with poker and other online card games," Stone said.
Kentucky's efforts follow on the heels of a 2006 federal law that forces U.S. banks and credit card companies to block electronic transactions to Internet gambling businesses.
"But that did not mark the end of Internet gambling," Stone said.
Besides creating ways for youths to wager, Beshear said, unlicensed Internet gambling undermines horse racing by creating untaxed competition, makes it difficult to trace online laundering schemes and lacks consumer protections to ensure that people actually receive their winnings.
Beshear, who is pushing for casino gambling in the state, said he has no intention of pursuing Internet gambling as an option in Kentucky.
The Lexington law firm of Hurt, Crosbie & May and the Geneva, Ill., firm of Foote, Meyers, Mielke & Flowers are representing the state in the court action.
Brown said the firms are being used instead of Attorney General Jack Conway's office because the matter is a civil, instead of a criminal, action. The cost of the state's legal representation was not immediately available.
Brown would not say whether the actions of the illegal Internet operators would lead to criminal prosecution.
"That's beyond my purview," he said.
I don't know what this will mean for the future, but it could set a pretty dangerous precedent.

mmm skiing and poker. my two favorite activities. who else shares my sentiments?
whether or not online poker is actually legal in the US (it lands in a gray area in most states), it has forced the casual players out for the most part. if it were to be legalized, and taxed, both gov't and players would be rewarded. of course, in this economy, nobody really cares, so i bet it takes a while before any ground is made. of course it could go the other way and be outlawed completely, as is becoming the case in nazi-infiltrated kentucky. the biggest problem remains the ignorance of politicians and non players, thinking that the game is utter gambling and no better than playing roulette or any table game, and that no skill is involved. this is so not the case. so then, why are things like horse racing and sports betting tolerated? these involve some degree of skill too. just makes no sense.
to the OP, not sure why you posted here in a skiing forum. you are better off checking out the PPA website or poker forums like www.pocketfives.com and www.twoplustwo.com. they have what you are looking for.
