heh... they were both dryers and they were mic'ed. The thump-thump sound was used for some of the songs. It was pretty funny when the stage hand came out to check the clothes and put in some new wet ones so that the thump-thump would be more pronounced.
I never figured out the significance of the constantly spinning vending machine next to them. :)
