First described to me in Glasgow by some Easty coasters as Grunge Country in 93.

Sonvolt was formed by Jay Farrar after Uncle Tupelo broke up. Sonvolt put out three or four CD's. Trace is their best CD (imho) and definately one of my all time favorites. You should check them out. Their sound is very simular to Uncle Tupelo.

yeah I dig Sunvolt & need to pick up trace.

as i posted on the Wilco thread I think Sunvolt is more what I liked from UT.

you heard any of Farrar's solo stuff? I have heard a song or 2 but wondered what the whole spectrum was.

Farrar's solo stuff sounds pretty similar to Son Volt, I'd say. Maybe a touch folksier, but it's still got plenty o' that raw earth fire-and-shadows swerve that made the UT era so great. It's definitely nowhere near the more polished studio sort of sound Wilco seems to have pursued, but then, I prefer that live sort of sound, myself.
