View Full Version : Obama & Conservative Spin: not so reneawable?

After having the opportunity to attend Obama's speech last night, I decided to tune into some local AM talk radio for the usual conservative redux of various points that were mentioned. I happened across Rush Limbaugh's show and was rather amazed with some of the comments regarding Obama's speech. Specifically:

"All of the blacks were in the upper levels and the whites on the ground floor"

and

"Many blacks were disappointed that no attention was given to the anniversary of King's speech"

He went on and on for another 20 minutes until I got to work, but similar "make-believe" comments continued (the latter comment being completely untrue). It would seem to me that at Rush is scrambling for content - is this because he's lost his edge or is there really that little for him to spin? Making notes on where he saw various races of attendees in the stands hardly seems like sustainable fodder to me. Is this typical of the conservative redux of Obama's speeches or is Rush just really that poor of a spin-meister?

I was expecting some much better dissection of Obama's "points of change" - like energy independence in 10 years, his comments on supporting single mothers and tax cuts for 90% of Americans. Oh well, I probably just tuned into the wrong old, white, conservative.

Rush is a babbling Moron. One I used to listen to a lot. I am saddened that there are enough republicans out there, that far to the right, and that thick headed, that he can still exist and collect a pay check. Not the republican party i'd like to be part of...

Throw them under the bus.
Maybe they'll get a clue and come back with something worth considering.
I don't want a one-party state any more than you do.

It's enough to make your head spin right? Oh wait... ya, that's what they're trying to do.

Great point! People are finally waking up to those tactics. I look at it this way. When someone supports and enthusiastically repeats silly NON talking points, such as these from Rush, then you KNOW you're dealing with an idiot.

He's always made things up out of thin air and then ranted about them for hours.

That was conservative talk radio's big breakthrough: why be stuck responding to actual news when it conflicts with your agenda? Just write a fictional story, in which you are the hero, and call it news!

Normal people call this "pathological lying".

Watching the Dem Convention (or the Rep Convention, for that matter) is pretty gay. Listening to Rush Limbaugh talk about what happened at the Dem Convention is even gayer.

My advice to you is to stop being gay.

But that happens on a daily basis in The Padded Room........

Oh, right. Nevermind.

Good point Spats. How come the people that strive for balanced coverage are labeled as liberal? Probably because their show doesn't consist of lies; which I firmly believe is what Conservatism is/has become. I don't mean Libertarian, I mean Conservative.
Mr. Zach, try listening to NPR if you have a decent station near you. I'm much more comfortable with that. Probably because I'm a Volvo driving, latte sipping, Northeastern Liberal. Except that I moved to MT, drive a Subaru, and drink black, vanilla ice-coffee.

Rush is a babbling Moron.

So true. If someone duck taped his pie-hole shut, they could lay claim to making a small dent in the trapping of hot air and noxious gases that contribute to atmospheric warming.
