After a much more action-packed early summer than I thought (car troubles, whale excitement, girls, etc...), I was able to catch some waves yesterday! Sure, Westport had a decent crowd and the waves were double-over-calf onshore slop at best, but FKNA! So much fun! The 7'2" Point Blanks Rocket Sled is a sweet ride (could have gone for the 6'8" if they had one) that I can't wait to get into some bigger waves.

Surfing is the shit. Next weekend....oh yeah.

Girls and whales are two different things.

I managed to get out to La Push on a solo mission after all my friends bailed on me (MBS, I'm talking to you too...) but I still had a bunch of fun. Got out there about 1900 Saturday night and watched the waves and the sunset, then did a little stealth bivy away from the fireworks. Was out on the water by about 0830 yesterday morning and went out for a morning session that lasted until about 1530. The first wave that I caught was the best of the day, but I did come as close as I ever have to getting barreled later on (closed out on my head as I was pulling in). The tide went out as the day progressed and the sandbars would really affect how the wave broke, which made it sort of tricky to be in the right spot. It would jack up and you'd get all excited, then right as it should have broken it would flatten out as it hit a trough, leaving you back on a swell. Even so, I got some nice rides and had my fair share of beatdowns.

I thought about staying for a monday morning session and being late for work but decided that I'd be worthless given the exhaustion factor, so I bailed and high-tailed it to the Anacortes ferry. Missed the 2025 ferry by about 3 minutes thanks to two cruise ships in Admiralty Inlet that made my PT-Keystone ferry wait for them to pass. Got the 1215am boat. Ughh.

Surfing is rad.

(sidenote: the Ramry got over 30mpg with a surfboard bag on the bars!!!)
