So I'm looking for a good mtb ride to do w/ my wife this wknd in the Aspen/Snowmass area (headin' down for the ol' one year anniversary). Did a search but didn't find much as far as what I'm looking for--something kinda mellow, good scenery, not too much climbing. Not asking for too much.:D
Depending on what the lift service terrain is like at Snowmass we'd even think about just doing mellow DH runs. Are there mellow options off the lift there? Maybe some terrain similar to Winter Park? The Snowmass website kinda sucks as far as giving any info on the lift serviced terrain. Hell, it doesn't even tell you what a lift ticket costs. My wife throws down on the descent, not much of a climber though.
Anyway, any info on some good riding would me much appreciated. Thanks y'all.

Many mellow options off the lift, a few with small and medium climbs. When you get to town pick up a trail map... Nitro can give you all the beta in the world. Either Ditch to Connector or up Village Bound to whatever, etc.... etc... and then when you are tired of going up go down.... or if you make it up to Government or Cross Mountain you can ride a lot of really cool stuff. You can check out Rim Trail too, if you're tired, there is an out in the middle. There are a couple DH/FR rig type trails, the rest are mostly mellow.... A few of us might be riding on Saturday, but I know I'll be out of town on Sunday.

Right on. Thanks mang. If it weren't a mushy anniversary wknd I'd say let's get together to shred. However, that aint gonna happen.
So is there enough terrain off the lift to do a one-ride deal then loop up a longer ride from the top to get back to town? I'd love to find a way to mix some FR/DH in there, both our bikes are pretty well set up for it.
Thanks again.
Happy 1 year! We just celebrated ours last night...
As Nitro, he's the Snowmass Man...even though he's slow...
Definitely some nice rides off the lift. Tom Blake is great. The first half of Rim is a great bet, the second half definitely has a climb.
Have a great time up here.

GR--for sure! Great meeting you as well. We had a blast up there. It was the first time for my wife doing any kind of lift access riding and she's hooked. Thanks for the info. Always nice to put a face with a name...

Any locals gonna be in town next week? The wife and I will be up hanging out in Aspen all week starting tues., but I'm gonna have the big bike and should be able to get out for a couple rides while she chills at the house. Lift-assisted or shuttle preferred, but I'm up for whatever.

I'll be out of town, but I'm sure a few others will be around.
The lift served riding at Snowmass is fun, but really limited and short. Maybe 600-700 vert? Slow, fixed grip double, 15 minutes up 1 minute down. I only lasted a couple hours before I decided to buy a six pack and poach a hotel pool. They do have a 4x course you can ride though... Also, I'm not super in-the-know, but if you have a stout 5" or 6" bike you wouldn't need your DH bike at all. I was there last week and rode my Prophet MX the whole time, didn't touch the DH bike. There is really good XC riding all over the valley.

Yeah I'd bring my MX if I could but it's out in Ohio. Just have the Demo 7 back west. It has 2 rings so I can climb it, some. If there are good FR/DH trails (off the rim trail? as grskier mentioned above?), I'm not averse to pedaling to them.
Prince Creek, outside Carbondale is an easy pedal up and it's kind of Bobsled-esque...

If it's not too warm, Prince Creek down valley, at 'mass Eureka has some bridges.
You could also lap a few times on the chair, stash some of the pads, then take a quick climb up to a few different trails.
