After an OrthoBionomy session Friday morning and a great PT session in the afternoon, I fell on my leg. It was feeling fukking perfect. Now it hurts like hell and the front half of my foot has been numb since. Purplish discoloration when I woke up after elevating all nite. I am soooo fukking pissed. Made it 4-1/2 weeks without an incident like this. I fell forward on it, landing on my foot, but it was bent, a big meniscus no-no. Two steps forward, one back...
Huckin eh?

I did a similar once while on crutches. I was making my way down a long flight of stairs and had a crutch-tip misplacement just as I was about to place my good leg for the next step. I put full weight on my good leg with my big toe curled under my foot, but there was nothing i could do to stop it short of put weight on my broken ankle. Result: broken toe on good leg. That plagued me for a year afterward.

Yeah, That morning, after trying to sleep without eating a vic (didn't happen much), I almost ate shit on some stairs, hopping down two at a time after losing my balance, waaay forward, I hit the bottom and had to hop four times to slow down on my good leg. A guy was standing there and says, "Jeezuz, man, that was close." I replied, "Close only counts in nukes and farts." But, as it turns out, close did count, as my ankle was sore for two days.

Was your ankle sore before?
At least you ALMOST ate shit, because if you would have landed SPLAT, it would have been much worse.
With a sentence of 6 weeks NWB, it's bound to happen at least once that you have to come down on that leg. Hopefully it'll heal up quickly...sorry bro. Hang in there.

Damn Pat! Sorry to hear that. Be careful dude! Do you think you did any serious damage? Are you going to get it checked out? Hope things are still OK and you get off those crutches soon.

Dude, bummer.
When the hookers and blow make your legs wobbly, you should take a few minutes before streaking for the door next time.
Get better. Winter's coming.

Fuck. I could cry myself a fukkin river about now.
Pain has increased and the numbess in my foot varies through the day and night.
Most of the time I could cut the front half of my foot off and never feel a thing.
Just got off the phone with the doc and he said to hang til Wednesday and he'll be in the office.
I wasn't supposed to see him for two more weeks.
FUCKFUCKFUCK!
NOT a happy camper.

When I had my acl, meniscus, and microfracture, I was too active and wound up with bleeding in my leg down to my ankle for several weeks. At one point I went in to see my doc because I was really getting worried about compartment syndrome. It hurt like hell. He said it would work itself out and what do you know? He was right. Four years on I still have a purple mark on that leg just above the ankle but no problems. Hope all goes well with yours.

don't go jumping off any bridges yet, you have to stay positive here and do thing you need to do. Like ice, elevate and continue to work on the things you CAN do.
Which side of you foot is numb? what pat of you knee hit, details man and maybe I can give you some kind of insight.

Just got back from PT. My knee is stable, but the PT had nothing to say about the numbness, which is triangular from the inside of the knee 5 inches down the shin, then picks up again at the ankle joint and is especially noticeable along the tendon to the big toe, top of foot and in the ball of the foot.
PT did say 'congrats' that I hadn't messed the joint up too bad, though it hurts a lot more.

Careful man. We need you in Russia next year. Anyway, my buddy fell down the stairs after ACL surgery. He was in the worst pain and alsmost went into shock but didn't do any additional lasting damage.

Wow. Big leap today. Numbness subsided significantly, but it still there, and I got on the cpm and worked my way to 0-110, which I have found in the real world translates to a more objective appraisal of about 5-90. I made some funny noises as I worked through a couple tough spots, but eventually got there. I got pretty scared cause there ain't any room in my life for me to spend any more time in the down mode than I've already spent.
Russia. Now there's another reason to get up and functioning.

I did the missed step, fly down 4 stairs, land on my bad leg, stunt 6 weeks after a broken ankle... It hurted like hell and I was absolutely confident I had broke it again. Actualy, everything was fine and the pain eventualy disapeared.

Cool. We'll need it for all the cores and bases you're preppin. heh.
edit: Doc gave green light to work through the kinks that developed as a result of me stumbling. He said the numbess I'm experiencing is sensory only, based on some quick resistance tests, and should go away. Said to start progressive weight bearing. Had an orthobionomy session after the doc and felt so good I walked out Debra's office to my Jeep - using crutches, of course.;)
So I am now going forward with PT the next couple days and walking with crutches to get everything firing. I'm all re-stoked, ready to cure and actively implementing my mehab. I decided that I would no longer gimp on one foot and crutches, but just walk everywhere with the crutches until I don't need them anymore. It doesn't hurt, click or feel bad. I've tried to work through injuries before, gone too hard and screwed myself up, so I was cautious. Now that I have the green light from the doc, I'm feeling much better. Just walking with crutches is insanely cool after 7 weeks of full tilt gimping.

That's good to hear Pat! Was worried after your fall, but glad to know things are going well. Sounds like things in the shop are going well too!

Doc said 'work thru it' I said 'that's all I need to hear.' Walked (on my crutches) into PT today and said, 'I'm tired of gimpin, let's push it'. PT measured me to 8-95 rom (I lost a lot recovering from my stumble) and said 'If you had another 10, I'd put you on the bike." I said, 'fuck that, I've been dreaming about riding a bike.' He said, 'OK.'
Funny thing, after he raised the seat, I reached out and put one hand on seat, one on the handlebars and lifted myself up soooo easily, I did a couple dips before swinging around and landing on the seat. 7 weeks on those fuckin crutches increased my upper body strength. PT looked really relieved I didn't lose it.
So, the first circles were tough at the peak, but I just winced when I got there and drove thru it. At 5 minutes, he said he was impressed and I told him I wanted another five. No clicks, no instability, just a general malaise in the muscles and ligs. My knee is so freakin stable. I am reinvigorated!

I became nearly 1 with my bike after my ACL replacement. If I stop riding for a week or 2, the knee gets a little cranky. All I have to do is jump back on the the bike to wind it back up tight again.

Whew glad to hear you're doing so much better. I too did the wincing each time it came around last time I biked, but after 5 minutes it started feeling better, and I rode for 20 min and felt awesome after that. I'm psyched to be back in the saddle. Keep riding! We can have a gimped out stationary race.

Can't wait til I'm spinning my mtb wheels around the streets and trails.
I do believe I'll be riding hard til the snow gets too deep this fall.
Bike riding saved my knees when they became completely instable like 15 years ago.
edit: I'm tired of trimming the straps shorter on my brace to accommodate my atrophy.
Walking (or fakin it) with my crutches is cool but shows me how far I have to go. I've been watching TV from my bed for almost two months. Still have a cryo cuff, cpm, and infrasonic wave machine I do while lying there, but now I'm doing more exercises, putting my heel up the headboard to stretch the hammy, getting up, doing the crutch walk and kinda doing weight bearing, knee bending dips in the corner of my desk, where I can control the bending of my knee by supporting myself with my hands on the desk. Just started that today and I like the way it feels and allows a lot of flexibilty in the amount of weight I put on my meniscus while stretching the acl.
