Hey guys, I'm planning on getting an 07-08 Hippy Stinx to go along with my Ener-G's and Bombers. Just wondering if anybody had any length recommendations for me. I'm 6'2" 170 lbs., and I'm going to be using the ski pretty much everywhere (steeps, groomers, trees, etc.). Not sure if I should go for the 179 or 189. I'm currently on a 184 Atomic Kongur with Targas. Suggestions???.....Or just JONG me...either one.

Disclaimers:
1. I used the search function and wasn't able to find what I was looking for.
2. I would try to post this on TTips as well, but I guess it takes them a while to activate accounts.

I'm an inch shorter, and five pounds lighter than you, and I used to ski the Piste Pipes as an everyday ski. And I now ski Verdicts as an everyday.

PPs I skied in 179

Verdicts in 180

Remember, even though those K2s are twins, they measure long. I'd go 179. They'll still float decent, but they'll be easier to throw around in tight places. Remember they're significantly heavier, especially swingweight-wise, than those Kongurs you're currently on, and they're probably close to the same length. You'll get more opinions, I'm sure.

Yeah, the Hippy's measure huge - the 189 comes in at 189.3cm...

I"m 6' even, 170, and am using the 189s with bombers and Crispi XR on the east coast. I haven't felt any downside to them, and I ski trees more than anything else. The effective edge is somewhere in the low 160's, I don't remember exactly...like 162-163cm. If you can handle the Kongur with targas, a 179 hippy with bombers is gonna feel like a toy: you'd essentially be moving to a shorter, softer ski with burlier bindings.

The only way I'd recommend the 179 is if you're still learning/intermediate and the Kongur's have been kicking your ass, or if you're using them solely as a touring rig.

k2s measure about 4-6 cm longer than listed length...i.e. 179 = 184ish and 189 = 194ish. they're not a particularly stiff ski and you're failry tall so the 189 is definitely doable. if you want something more playful go 179 and if you want more of a charger go 189. also, the 179 would probably be more manageable in the trees.

Thanks for the replies. Still not 100 percent, but I'm leaning towards the 189 since it's easier to find and, therefore, less expensive.

I have the 189's and I'm 5'11" 155lbs. I haven't tried them out yet since I got them after the end of the season. I think they're going to kick my ass a bit but oh well.

So...I don't have any real info for you. Good luck with your decision.

Just to spread the word - was talking to the guy at B & D, and he makes an adapter plate that transitions K2s insert system to dukes...super $$$ versatility.

That's good to know. He doesn't have it up on the site yet, but I'm sure they'll sell.

There's a pair of 189 hippy stinx on CL in anchorage for $250 with hammerheads. I'm thinking about picking up the skis and mounting dynafits. Anyone know how much they weigh?

If they are anything like the Seths or the Chiefs, not light. Sorry I can't give more specifics...
