NSFS = Not Safe For Sanity...

This has been somewhat covered in the "most interesting cover" thread.

Total Guitar has come up with the 5 Worst Covers Ever.

http://www.totalguitar.co.uk/page/totalguitar?entry=tg_s_worst_covers_ever

And some people say that Heavy Metal leads people to commit suicide. :nonono2:

Warning, some of these are REALLY BAD!!!

TG'S TOP 5 WORST COVER SONGS EVER!

5. Wonderwall - The Mike Flowers Pops (original artist Oasis)

Vy1ueZf1WMQ

4. Light My Fire - Will Young (original artist The Doors)

eVavmDGnHDY

3. More Than Words - Westlife (original artist Extreme)

NVFmumZcgFc

2. Walk This Way - All Saints (original artist Run DMC & Aerosmith)

So bad all footage of it has been expunged from the internet...

1. You Shook Me All Night Long - Celine Dion (original artist AC/DC)

Oi, Dion, NOOOO!!!
It's one of the worst things we've ever seen, and we've been backstage with Marilyn Manson... Celine Dion's cover of the AC/DC classic You Shook Me All Night Long has quite rightly been voted the Worst Cover Of All Time in this month's TG, on sale now.

This vile act, whereby the 'Sea Lion' and chums defile the 'DC legacy at VH1's Divas Las Vegas concert in 2002, is made all the more sickening when you consider Ms Dion is singing about cunnilingus in the second verse.

Frankly, it made us puke all night long. Stick to sinking ships please Dion.

Watch it below at your peril, and note Ms Dion's pathetic attempt to garner rock kudos by duckwalking upon entrance.

Here is another candidate for worst cover.

Britney Spears - I love Rock and Roll

Okay, this is really bad and she's not a recording artist (at least I don't think she is). Bulgarian Music Idol sings Ken Lee (aka Without you).

Umm, while the more than words cover is truly awful, it does not vary significantly from how I remember the song sounding in the fist place.

Bullshit call by Total Guitar.

Punished for the temerity to cover ACDC over putting out a bad version IMHO.

Heard a lot worse covers and heard a LOT worse original material. Loads of it from Dion herself.

The Bulgarian thing reminded me of this:

Interestingly, The Mike Flowers Pops does Light My Fire too. I have to really give 2 thumbs up for that Wonderwall cover though. He's less pretentious than the Gallaghers and he gives Richard Cheese some worthy competition.

Um, I'm hoping you really didn't mean to say that Walk This Way was originally recorded by Run DMC & Aerosmith.

And no discussion of terrible cover versions would be close to complete without this pos:

Meh, they totally blew it. None of them is even in the same leauge as the sonic horror that is Shania Twain's version of You shook me all night long:
HTucA0IpOhk

Mute the sound if you don't want your ears to bleed and your childhood memories of fucking rad rock and roll songs to be burned on the pyre of awfulness.

At least Celine has the good sense to try rocking, singing and faithfully reproduce the lyrics.

I don't care if she's hot, that shit is unforgiveable.

Yeah that list is bullshit.
Exhibit A: The Mike Flowers Pops version of Wonderwall is 100 times better than the Oasis song. The Oasis song sucks balls.
Exhibit B: More Than Words sucks. In any variation. The worst cover can’t be of a song that blows to begin with.
The list did get it right with No. 1. Any song that Celine sings is automatically the worst version of that song ever. I couldn’t bring myself to watch the clip, I just know it to be true.

Any AC-DC cover that doesn't have you wailing away on air guitar automatically sucks.

Pat Boone doing Tutti Fruitti. There's a video of it somewhere, I don't want to see it again.

Doesn't the William Shatner "Lucy in the Sky" cover merit a mention? Or do we give it a pass for irony?

I thought of the songs on Golden Throats at first, but, yeah, the irony/camp value of that collection is a big positive. Heard it recently played fairly loud at a party, and it was a gas. Everyone was hooting.

[Madonna's "American Pie"]

Good call. I thought of that one right away. Another horrible one is the No Doubt cover of Talk Talk's "It's My Life." Gwen Stefani's voice is like nails on a chalkboard to me.

I love Iron Maiden but their cover of Jethro Tull's Cross Eyed Mary is horrible IMO.

Ummmm.... wow.

Glad to see you kinda got it.

Ever hear Sulu's version of Light My Fire. It's pretty rad.

Ummmm....wow. You're no smarter than the guy you're named after. Ironic doesn't necessarily mean worthwhile--maybe you can kinda get that.

Heard a discussion of this topic on the radio today, both the Madonna "American Pie" song and a Shatner cover were on it--but the Shatner one was "Mr. Tambourine Man." Pretty funny, very awful.
