True Dat'

I forget if Tour Nevada City has all the local ride maps. Someone has them, just not sure who these days. Hell, there is probably a book with all the rides and I just don't know about it.

BC-Flow,

Trail Qstn.

There's a loop I like to do up there. Start at 5 Mile Mkt. up Pioneer drop down Alpha to Washington back along the S. Yuba to Purdon Crossing (or Edwards -- I forget) and back to the mkt. I know that you can take trails off of N. Bloomfield all the way back to the mkt (not the s.t. that parallels 20) but the last few times I've gotten lost. Last time we ended up riding up 20 in the dark. I remember having to jump over the guardrail every time a car/truck came by. Not a nice way to end a 70 mile ride.

Do you know the trails that get you from N. Bloomfield to 5 mi. mkt. There's a lot of private land but I know you can get through. A 6 pack to the one who can show me the way.

Boobookitty,

There's a lot of great trails. No big secrets any more so you can pretty much find it all by getting maps at the shops or talking to BONC. If you PM your number I'll give you a call when we head up next. Enjoy.

Nevada City? Great effing choice. Seriously.

There are so many trails and loops surrounding the South Yuba trail and Pioneer to last you a long time I'd think. Rugged terrain and breathtaking scenery too. Close to D-ville & Auburn. Not far from N*Star...you must be stoked.

Lunch - I've never done any of those loops. If you ever want an extra singlespeeder tagging along some time drop me a line!

ja-surf: Hey, I remember running into you on a trail up at Tahoe (Meadow). We only rode for a few minutes before parting ways. I remember my friend slid down that rock face in pretty dramatic style. Funny.
I thought that loop was significantly more than 50 miles base on my friends computer but I'm not sure. It is a lot of climbing. A lot. It's nice to have the river right there in case you need it. And the skinny-dipping hippies are always entertaining.

T.S.: That loop is definitely not s.s. material but we could go s.s. Pioneer and then do a recon mission to find those trails. That would probably be worth the trip up there. Do you have a Garmin, per chance?

How'd Weaverville go? I met Dezmin yesterday -- the guy that smoked everybody at Cool on a s.s. He gave me the l.o. on the best 24 hr. races in CA. I'm investigating but just can't quite commit. Sierra-Tahoe 100 might not be bad but $1.45/mile? It'd be easier to pay if it went to a good cause (a la Cool) rather than subsidizing the podium.

Hopefully I'll see you at Sierra Century. Did you see that pic of you registering last year?

yep..have a Garmin. A 305.

Didn't go for Weaverville afterall. Bailed when we saw the forecast was for rain. Dez is a nice guy. I check out the results from Weaverville and it looks like smoked everyone up there too. He usually races the Prairie City races as well.

Sierra Century - Oh yeah forgot you were doing that. Sending you a PM. And what pic are you talking about??

Like how I post that and disappear for days?
How 'bout the best coffee shop for me to get a job?
Any other bike shops aside from Tour of NC and Xtreme Outfitters?

Thanks to everyone for the links, recommendations, etc. I can't wait to start checking out the trails. I've been riding around town and Grass Valley scoping for jobs and finding my way around. So far so good!

T.S. Here's the pic -- hopefully.

ja surf That's basically the route but starting at 5 Mile House. There's no way around the really steep climb out on the road but when you get to the top I think there's a unmarked trail network back to the to store.

Sounds like you are living in Grass Valley instead of Nevada City, no? If so I can give you a run down over there too.

For coffee shops I'd say The Flour Garden (one in GV down by the safeway, one in brunswick by the longs drugs). In NC there is Cafe Mecca, which is a bit more late night kid hangout (cause there isn't a lot to do after 9 if you are under 21). On Broad St. there is another shop called Ricks (or something) that is pretty good too.

Bike shops, yeah it's Tour NC, Extreme Outfitters (is that the one in Grass Valley on the way to Brunswick across from the cheesy holiday inn?) and there is also some TR22 bike shop in Brunswick. Never been in that TR22 (or whatever) place. Think it's more BMX, but not totally sure.

If you want to PM me with more details on what you are looking for or what you situation is I'll happily spill all that I know from living there from 7 to 25. My Mom still lives there.

Good luck!

Technically, I'm in Nevada City, but it seems like it just blends into Grass Valley over the hill? Anyway, I'm just surprised that there aren't more bike shops around here.
My landlord suggested Flour Garden too, so I think I'll be making an trip there today. Cafe Mekka (cc?) looked dead on Saturday morning, so that's not a very good sign

Indeed, Mecca is more a night spot than a morning spot. Flour Garden is probably a better fit and a more diverse slice of the populous goes there.

As for bike shops, yep it's a kinda funny blend. I've only been to Tour in recent years and even then I don't think I actually bought anything. The guy that owns Extreme Outfitters (great name :nonono2: ) is a super good guy. Could have changed hand tho, who knows?

Also, keep in mind CBO is down in Auburn as is Auburn bike works. They usually have way more in stock and on hand.
