Decent movie, definitely/defiantly fun in parts, but I had the same feeling leaving the theater that I did after the three Star Wars prequel films--underwhelmed. George Lucas has an amazing imagination but he should get out of the way of talented filmmakers.

George Lucas has an amazing imagination but he should let more talented people write his movies.

fixed it for you. Lucas does ok to relatively well with the cinematography considering the genres his movies are all in, but his stories are atrocious. And he could stand to use a little less CGI.

Saw it last night and thought "hmm... solid in places, yet leaves a bit to be desired elsewhere. The finish was weak and some of the plot and character development was a bit iffy." Overall it was mildly entertaining but I had higher expectations.

Actually, that also describes my last shit.

Crystal Skull is tied for last place with Temple of Doom. "I guess Indy needs to have Nazis to really shine. That being said, when they were discussing his war record I was thinking to myself "Indy in WWII, now that's a movie I'd want to see!"

Man, THX1138 was sooooo cool.

I have not seen the new INDIAN JONES film but I have heard predominantly underwhelming comments from nearly all who have seen it.

Had I knew it was going to be a sci-fi flick I probably wouldn't have been as excited to see it. I felt tricked.

It was basically a self congratulatory homage to Lucas and Spielberg. Hey! Lets make the opening scene look like like it was out of the ending to American Graffiti when they are driving down Airport Rd! Hey, I think I have some of the props left over from E.T. and Close Encounters, and we never did figure out what the fuck they were doing on Earth in the first place, so lets just throw them in here!

Anyone else feel when they were in the jungle and Karen Allen disappeared for a while in that duck-jeep, that the story really wouldn't be lacking if she never showed up again?

It was fun, but next time guys, less aliens, more Nazis.

HUGE Indy fan here and this one's not even good for nostalgia's sake. Unfunny, boring, I walked out 30 min before the end...
Wait for the DVD.

Just got out of the theater after seeing it. At it's best, it felt like the premise for an okay log ride at Disneyland. At it's worst, was just boring...

That's exactly what my friend said! Seems like we all have the same opinion.

True conversation. My Dad called me yesterday:

Dad: Did you see the new INDIANA JONES movie?

Jim: No, I heard it was not good. Why, did you?

Dad: Yes. It was so bad that if you HAD seen it and failed to warn me, I would have taken you out of the will. If you have a choice between seeing this movie and suffering a self-inflicted gunshot wound, well, definitely take the bullet.

are you fucking kidding me?
Severely disappointed.
It's as if they felt, "It's Indiana Jones, we really don't have to try at all to make this a good movie for it to rake in the dough, so lets not."
All flash, NO - ZERO - NADDA - substance.
What an injustice.

We need to draft an open letter to Lucas and Speilberg, re: CGI, Aliens, and when to use them. They fail in this department. Epically.

Natty, by walking out 30 minutes before the end, you saved yourself from the worst the movie had to offer. It was quite possibly the worst ending of to a movie I have ever seen.

Comical Spoilers

[Wayne's World]

Garth: Let's do the super freaky alien mothership ending...

[Flying saucer takes off, leveling the temple]

Wayne:Sha, alright, that was cool, but let's do the hero gets married super mega happy ending!

Seconded.

The last half hour, I was just bored, and ready to leave the theater.

It's not that often that I think "oh no" from the first moment of a film. Really, leading into the film with a CGI shot of a prairie dog was cause for concern.

Wow- These reviews make me glad I am tied to the house with a 9 month old. Can't remember the last movie I saw in theaters, and can't remember the last one I wanted to. That said, I thought this one was a for sure, must see in theaters. Will they please stop remaking movies.

Note to Spielberg:

If you fucking remake The Goonies and it sucks, I will hunt you down and remake your face.

The second I left the theater, I turned to my dad and asked: "What the hell was that about?" I think that basically sums it up

At least I had a mega size coke and a .75 of Jack..... not sure how the 3rd half of the movie was.

As others have said, it had it's moments, but then there are parts that I sat watching and was like "Did they just have the nerve to do that?", "Did I just see what I thought I saw?"...

Did anyone else think in the opening sections where Indy is talking, it didn't even SOUND like Indiana Jones? Ford sounded like a geriatric John Wayne or some bs...

Overall, it is WORSE then Temple of Doom...but I find I STILL cannot stop whistling the damn theme! :D

It's not a remake, it'd be like making Goonies 2... now... with the same actors. :(

Yeah, it was just a cluster of old movie ideas crammed together into a CGI blender. Pick a plot and settle on it, don't try to jam four half-baked plots into one movie. Cold War? Blacklisting? Area 51 & aliens? South American lost cities?

Did anyone else think that the non-CGI set design was a lot worse than the previous movies? Maybe my memory is foggy, but the skull looked like a cheap plexi prop and a lot of the South American scenes looked worse than old Star Trek sets, so there was no hope of getting distracted from the ridiculous plot with cool visuals (with the exception of a few good CGI scenes).

The other indy movies all had one single supernatural thing in them, which if you accepted, the rest of the movie was "possible" if not likely. They were fantastic and incredible, but aside from the power of the grail/arc/brainwashing magic kali ma bs everything was possible.

This movie, in almost every scene, showed things that just were not possible, and were not explained at all by any supernatural anything. It was awful watching stuff that in no way could happen. The worst was probably the road making truck that just drove through the jungle magically making roads at 50mph. I thought that was retarded, but then once the truck got blown up, there were still roads for the next 50 miles.

Same here. The prairie dogs smelled of George Lucas meddling at the computer. ("Hey! Let's put CGI prairie dogs in the movie for comic effect! People will love them like they did the Ewoks!") Same with Mutt swining on the vines with the monkeys. I'm surprised Jar Jar Binks didn't make a cameo.

And it was pretty sad how Marion just smiled and looked dumb for the entire movie.

I didn't hate this movie but it could have been a lot better.

Thought the first part, while still in the USA was ok...kind of entertaining....would have been much more fun unsober......as soon as they got on a plane it sucked.....good thing it was free...gotta love torrents.

I give it a C, maybe a bit lower. Forced humor that just didn't match up to the other Indy movies. I never expected a solid storyline (like Raiders or Last Crusade), but that storyline was weaaaak. I rank it below Temple of Doom.

I theatre-hopped into it and the 5 minutes I saw--Indiana in a chair being forced to look into the crystal--was more than I could stomach. The screenplay, the concept....phh. I am soooo glad I didn't waste any more time watching it. Fucking pathetic.

It sucked. Why is anyone surprised? I really did not expect much out of this movie. My wife is a huge Indie, so we had to go. I loved Raiders, but each sequel was either meh or worse to me.

Could have it been better? Maybe, but it needed a lot of re-writing, differnet direction and rethinking.

So much worse than the Temple of Doom. I think the ending was more like Vanilla Sky than waynes world. It was fun in parts, but over all two mehs, one for the aliens and another for how we learn that Dr. Jones' career as a an archaeologist was just a cover for his career as a spy and colonel in WW2 which we DON'T get to see?!?!?!

That being said, when they were discussing his war record I was thinking to myself "Indy in WWII, now that's a movie I'd want to see!"

This actually struck a weird chord with me. When was Indy in the military? He's a professor, and was always sort of peripheral to the war AFAI tell from the plot. Now they try to build him up as some secret operative/agent/whatever? It reeks of McCainery.

It was an ok movie with some fun parts, but it meshed poorly with the rest of the films, and I won't even dignify the alien plot by mentioning it further.

Great footage of the Antonov AN-2 though. I know the guy who ferried that plane for the movie.

just watched this. pretty fuckin' terrible, as far as indie movies go. probably below temple of doom, but i was like 10 when I watched that so it scared the ever living shit outta me and I can't remember it very well. The whole movie also, as my friend put it, screamed 'fuck physics! we CAN do that!'

Also, I realize it's about the 50's or whatever, but these guys gotta drop the colonial perspective. Dehumanizing aboriginal peeples =/= teh shit.
