I know many TGR members have been affected themselves or had loved ones affected by cancer, so please consider the following:

Last September, my brother, Steve, and I rode the Lotoja Classic, a one-day bicycle race from Logan, Utah to Jackson, Wyoming. At 206 miles, the Lotoja Classic is the longest one-day sanctioned bicycle race in the United States.

Much of my inspiration to complete the long and often painful training rides leading up to the race came from Susan Nelson, the wife of a friend and fellow cyclist. Susan was diagnosed with breast cancer in December 2003 and found out last year that it had metastasized into her bones, spine, and lungs. To learn more about Susan and her fight, visit www.fatcyclist.com.

Part of Susan's treatment included undergoing surgery last fall at the Huntsman Cancer Institute in Salt Lake City, Utah. The Huntsman Cancer Institute is one of the foremost centers for cancer treatment and research. But because cancer will affect one of two men and one of three women, I want to help them do more, to expand their ability to treat patients, and to accelerate their research to find a cure.

I am raising money for this very important cause and I'm asking you to help by making a contribution. The subject of my message is "one hour to fight cancer" because I'm asking you to contribute the equivalent of one hour to this worthy cause, whether it’s one hour’s pay, one hour’s entertainment, or what you’d give for one more hour to spend with a loved one dying from this terrible disease. Of course any amount is certainly appreciated, and you're more than welcome to be as generous as you can.

Please use the link in this post to donate online quickly & securely. You will receive email confirmation of your tax-deductible donation and I will be notified as well. I thank you in advance for your support and really appreciate your generosity!

Please forward this link to as many people as you can to encourage them to donate! Even if you're not able to donate, please take a moment to forward this link along--every little bit makes a difference.

Thank you,

mark

Susan's story is way too familiar. Good luck. In less than two hours all of my hair is getting the chop chop and getting sent to Locks of Love. It hasn't been cut since Carrie died, many Utah mags remember that night, I was at Yetna's after the TGR premier two years ago when I got the news. Money sent, as soon as I go to the car and get my wallet.

Breaks my heart to hear anyone going through this stuff, but thank you for turning your tragedy in the right direction and doing what you're doing. The ten year old girl who lives behind me just cut off her beautiful blond hair for locks of love. It's touching when anyone is moved to do something like that, particularly a little kid--certainly not what I was thinking about at that age.

Cancer sucks big hairy moose balls. (any other way of saying it is just too nice).

I'm particularly pissed off at cancer today.

Thanks so much for what you're doing - really, really, cool. I'll make a donation for sure.

Cancer can kiss my ass.

Thanks so much to the maggots who have donated. I visited the Huntsman Cancer Institute last week when I was in SLC, and all I can say is wow. What those guys are doing is awesome. The care they show patients is only rivaled by the work they are doing on cancer research. But they need our support. Let's keep the money flowing their way and see if we can't beat this disease.

Hey Wasatch,

I've been working over at HCI for the past year doing clinical research. It's certainly a special place to be a part of. Props on getting the word out to people and trying to raise money for an excellent cause.

For those Mags looking to make a difference, there are some other ways to get involved as well in the fight against cancer that come to mind off hand:

1. Visit your local Red Cross and donate blood: https://www.givelife.org/index_flash.cfm?thisHB=05/27/2008%2014:39:52

2. Become a member of the bone marrow donor registry: http://www.marrow.org/

3. Check out Active's donation website: http://www.active.com/donate/huntsman08
For those racers out there, this is an excellent opportunity to raise some money while doing a fun race.

Thoughts go out to all those with friends or family members who are afflicted by this disease.
