I have a pair of Stockli Strormrider DP. Had some Freeride bindings on them and now want to change to Dynafits. Only problem is holes from Freerides meant I have to go either 5mm back or 15mm forward of the mid mark.

Skis are for Backcounrty use including steeps, find them pretty stiff so wondered about going forward as often have a pack on. But 15mm is long way forward of mid mark.

Any thoughts

what DPs are? the one with asymmetric tails? If this is the case (and these are the only DPs I've tried), I would go 5 mm back. 15 mm forward, IMVHO, is too much

Hmm,if you will get the skis for steeps,I personally would definately go 15mm forward.

Short tails on steeps can be quite lethal..
And the ski itself is so burly, that driving it with some dynafit boots is gonna be a handfull even if you mount it +15mm.

The DP is for Domonique Perret some french bloke, there aren't asym, there about 125/94/111 and real stiff. Not twin tips. Nice skis, skied well with the freerides and Garmont Megarides so was hoping to swap to Dynafit for weight and toe lockout.

Tim - if your DPs are 05 or later the tails are indeed asymmetrical - not in terms of shape but stiffness. Do back-to-back runs with the skis switched right to left and you'll feel the difference.

Dominique Perret, elected Best Freeride Skier of the Century by a jury of journalists and readers of the ski press, is currently on tour in Europe promoting his book: Lignes de Pente (Fall-lines). We caught up with him in Paris at the Andaska mountain shop where we wanted to find out what it takes to be a freeride professional.

A quick look Perret’s CV is impressive:
1990: World record cliff jump on skis: 36.40 meters
1991: 211.825 km/h at Portillo in Chili
1996: Descent of the north face of Everest from 8,500 meters on skis
1998: World altitude record: 120,000 meters skied non-stop in 14 hours 30 minutes.

plus 20 films produced from around the world.

@verb61:
I heard he's there often, sadly i've never seen him ski. Heard he and his friends are easy to recognise.. all skiing on the dp pro's.. The guy on the 205's is DP himself.

I've met him 3 times, the last one - around early january - he was skiing with his 6-7 y son (both of them made the creblet at mach 3...). Look for a tall man dressed in white. I'd say he's on a regular pair of 201 DPs, though

Just yanking your chain. If it wasn't for a blister I'd still be skiing too...

I'm really not a DVD watcher but when it comes to ski history Mr DP really is one of the greats...
