So, I want to go with a hitch mount bike rack, but I'm worried about rear end clearance. The Legacy rides pretty low as it is, so I don't want to be dragging the rack or the back of my car on everything. Anybody running one on a similar vehicle that can provide some insight? My car will accept a 2", so I think that's the way to go.
Also, will I be able to open the rear hatch with the drop-down feature, or does it get in the way?

Inspectorgadget has one on his legacy and he seemed to do fine driving out Kane Creek last weekend.

phatfree & UTSG do as well. with two bikes i can't imagine it's a prob.
biggest issue is if you have the 4 bikes/extender on there and you have to do a steep stream crossing and you're diving the rack into a deep \_/ (like at Kane creek) - i still have that issue with the rover in some cases though...

Yeah, seems like plenty of small car folks are running them.
Now I'm concerned about the fact that the bikes completely block the tail/brake lights and license plate. I think I'll just give up biking.

You've had a good run kid, time to throw in the towel.

Why is blocking the license plate a bad thing? ;)
I've had plenty of cops drive by me with the rack loaded up with two bikes. I've never been pulled over. Also, I keep the rack on for almost half of the year and it definitely obstructs the plate on my 4Runner. Once again, never had a cop say a word.

My Legacy has an 1 1/8" Hidden Hitch, so I can only use the two bike T2. If I'm not careful about steep driveways and deep dips my ass drags on the ground - the hitch, not the rack itself. I can't say as I've tried the drop down feature yet.
With gas at nearly $4/gallon, I like having the bikes on the back of the car. And, best of all, I never clean the rack and bikes off the car as I pull into the garage. :fm:

IG, you running a 2" hitch? Did you go w/ OEM or aftermarket?
This setup (http://www.legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php?t=40784&highlight=tow+bar) would be ideal, but I don't think I have the patience.

When I was rear ended last summer with my M3 on a T2, the cop who cited the dumb bitch for rubbernecking and running into me, told me in-a-friendly-just-so-you-know sort of way that 'officially' anything that obstructs a troopers ability to see your license plate, is a ticketable offense. I wasn't about to argue with him and have had some version of a T2 for four years and have never been pulled over, but officially, they could pull your ass over for it. not to worried to CO, but in Utah, well, that would be a different story.

I've driven through UT with a T2 on both my Prius and Tacoma. Been pulled over for window tint but never for the bike rack.

Now that is a sick setup. You should totally do that.

I spend some time on the Legacy GT site and had looked at that tow hitch installation thread with envy. Hitch (http://www.legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php?t=86534&highlight=hitch) for sale in the LGT classified forum. There are several others if you search for hitch.

I have had one on my last 2 cars and it's never been an issue in UT (or ID, NV, CA...)
