briefly read some old posts about getting new poles and didnt really see specifically what i was looking for
so, ive bent or broke about 5 pair of poles this year, scott rentals and K2 speeds
(insert joke about falling here)
just started touring this year and was interested in some flick lock Leki's or something
are there any adjustables that are pretty bomber? or will I most likely break those too?

I tend to bend the shit out of poles quickly and the Black Diamond ones seem pretty bomber I've got the 2 section poles not the 3 though.

Don't get the "Carbon fiber" ones. The "Adjustable Probe" ones have carbon lowers but they are thicker and more bomber. I would probably go with the "Traverse" which are cheaper and all alu.

BD makes some good stuff...and their expedtition/traverse is typical BD quality.

That said, I can't count the number of times I've bent the lower portion of my 3-piece. Almost everytime however I've been able to bend the section back straight. Once though I creased it and had to replace the section. Not bad though only $10 or so from bdel.com.

I would probably stay away from the carbon fiber unless you like replacing a large section or CF often. CF=nice swing weight but the bend/snap is an issue, while the Al ones bend and give a little more and can be bent back

I recommed the BD Carbonfibre ones. I've bent every set of poles I've got (including two sets of BD traverse) except the CF. Have 2 years on them.

Cloth hockey tape wrapped about 8 inches from the grip down on any cheap pole.

I'll take a sixer of nice beer for this tip in saving you from starting a thread about your new broken touring poles.

I use the BD flicklock carbon but if you want a burlier pole go with the aluminum one. I snapped a carbon one a while ago but have had no problems since and love the poles. They're super light and easy to use and the grips are comfy

I have to agree here. I actually prefer UV-resistant 3M Duct Tape though. Probe poles are not all that useful as actual probes. Also probe poles tend to self adjust, lose pieces, break, and are heavy. Go with ONE-PIECE poles and dedicated probes in the BC if you ask me.

x 2. I got tired of fucking around with Black Diamond flip lock poles years ago and went to a regular pole for touring with a probe in my pack. The only place I ever found them useful is when I was touring out a flat road and needed length...but that sucks too so I don't do that anymore.
