Holeeeeeeee shiiiat. I cannot wait until I can ride my fucking bikes whenever and wherever I want.
I skied some great stuff down at Monarch this past weekend, but at this very moment all I can think about is dirt and rocks.
I want to be forced into riding one bike because the other one is completely hammered and needs love.
Mmmmm fresh tires.
Mmmmmm new grips.
Ahhhh freshly dialed brakes.

Now that we are neighbors, when is your wifey going to ok building a pump track in your large backyard?

Im hoping that these front range storms chill for a couple weeks so a certain trail that will remain nameless will be read to go near my place. Most everything else down here on those aspects seems to be melting out nicely.
Thinking an out and back type deal.

I'm going to Moab tomorrow for work. I don't care if I just have to ride Kane Creek road, I'm riding my bike tomorrow! :D
Since getting my knee scoped, I've been spending an hour or so a day on the spin bike at home watching bike movies. I think it's mostly making me insane as it just makes me want to ride a real bike more and more every day.
As do the collection of new bike parts showing up to build/rebuild bikes. I have three brand new wheels sitting at home now (one new pink camo rim that still needs to get built), new pedals, two sets of Strokers... I need to go to Go-Ride today to pick out the color to get the Ventana repainted....

And then you had to go

Now I want to drive great distances and hit rocks with my wheels.
Thanks. Thanks a lot.

As great as the skiing has been this year, I am starting to think a bit about riding bikes. Went out on the P1 to enjoy the mid fifties yesterday. So nice to roll around, and pop a few wheelies and shit.
Can't wait for I street and Fairmont to dry up.

Yeah, I went and did a bunch of laps around the church parking lot across the street. Better than nothing...
And I want to know what that noise is too. I was enjoying the sound of my hubs buzzing yesterday.

It's not where ever or when ever I want, but I went skiing all day yesterday and on the way home from work I get this:

Its under the freeway so "mostly dry" and its smack dab in the middle of the city. I try and get half an hour in on the way home, this bike commuting thing is finally paying off.

Me too. Though not completely afflicted yet...I've got the itch after:
Surfing in Mexico for a week.
Bluebird 40+ degree day at Snowbird yesterday.
Ordering bike parts.
Picked up Earthed: The Law of Fives from Go-Ride this weekend. And watched it (racers are siiick!).
Hoping I can sneak in another day at Ray's before I go under the knife next week...

Put your hands out in front of you, thumbs in.

If that doesn't help, take up tennis.

For the first time ever, I'm not in sync with you dirtbags. It took until mid-January before I was even close to accepting of the ski season, but now I'm kinda hooked. Maybe it's the really good days recently, coupled with some deprivation, but I'm pretty stoked to ski.
Also, bike trips trump all this coming season, so I don't have any really good new gear to get stoked for.

I was out on the road within a week after getting my knee scoped. Don't think it was a good idea. And of course, this was back in November when the roads were a lot more clear.
I don't get the summer jones in winter, nor do I really get winter jones in summer. I enjoy cycling season right up until it's too cold to go out anymore, at which point I start wishing for snow (here in Boise, that doesn't come until December). Then I ski until it's slushy and you need your fat skis to skim across the puddles rather than to float the pow. Once the snow is gone, I get back on the bike, rinse, repeat...

Then I find this post and I have to thank you for reminding me to bring my bike when we go to GJ for Easter with the wifes family.

You will know that hell has frozen over when you catch me doing actual road biking again. I will not ride in traffic, particularly in Utah.
That said, I rode my singlespeed out on Kane Creek road down in Moab today. (That's my kind of road - dirt, and with zero cars on it...) The tackiest dirt I've ever seen in my life right now. And Amasa Back looks perfect. Which is also the reason I didn't bring any othe bike other than my rigid one, so I wouldn't be out riding Amasa back 14 days after surgery.... it was probably stupid enough that I stopped to pull out my camera, bumped the incision where they just removed the stitches and ended up with blood dripping down into my shoe... My physical therapist is going to smack me upside the head.
WHY do we only come down here when it's like 110 degrees out and not when it's empty and 50? (Of course, there's snow on all the other trails, but still...)
Bike season started today for me though. :D

I rode Moab this past weekend. Tried Sovereign, but too muddy/soft/snowy. The shops are saying that it is open, but it sucks. If Moab doesnt get any snow this week (i.e. Wednesday), it may be good this weekend. Amasa was $$$ on Saturday. A few spots had a bit of ice, but overall it was sweet. Chile trails are all money too.

You don't think that the vpx would be a little too heavy for an all around bike?
Not necessarily. I've ridden my VPX from Keystone, to Prince Creek and Mushroom Rocks (which you'll come to appreciate living the RF Valley), to 30+ mile shuttles with lots of climbing.
Sure, its not going to be as light as a 575, but the VPP system climbs well and you can pair it with a lighter build and an adjustable travel fork. If you're looking to really maximize the feeling going down and still be able to get up, I think you'll love the VPX.

You don't think that the vpx would be a little too heavy for an all around bike?
If the majority of your trail rides involve mach ludicrous descents, some rougher drops and some jumps with a little consequence, this would be a good bike in that literally it can handle about everything, including long climbs. It actually performs better climbing than any bike I've ever owned. It's just heavy.
If you're just looking for a trail bike that you don't really have any plans to do any abusive riding on, you might want something lighter.
How someone can live in the vicinity of Keystone and Sol Vista and NOT want a big bike is beyond me though ;)

Raps, woo has 12 bikes for a reason. The VPX will climb, and pretty well, but not especially efficiently or quickly. It's definitely more in its element at Keystone et al.
However, you've got the hardtail for the long XC rides and climby stuff, so the VPX could be just what you need. I'm pretty sure we've said this to you before, but if you ride like you ski, you're gonna want a big bike...sooner than later.

Happy to hear that I'm not the only one who's all twisted. Somewhere in the last couple weeks my brain officially switched to spring mode. I pulled the trigger on an SX Trail this Monday, so now my Demo has something to keep it company. Somehow doing track stands in the livingroom while The Collective plays in a loop is a very poor substitute for the real thing. Particle, if you're really interested in heading down to Moab, I'm in! We may also have a foam pit sesh in the very near future. I'll keep ya posted.

Nice choice Adam, I was going back and forth on that bike and ended up going with the Reign X0 with a 66 light on monday. Should be here any day.
AG - rollers give you some spin as well as balance skills. Of course they are a time machine, 3 min = 3 hours so going for more than 30 minutes takes focus.

I'm friggen dying here. The pow train stopped a week or so ago and the mid-season spring time is here. As a result, I would kill to take the bike out for a spin, but as far as I can tell there's this lingering little layer of snow preventing that. I really shouldn't complain though. So the 2.35 Super Tacky Minion tires seem really, really slow. At 900g I'm thinking a light 2.5 would even roll faster. What do you all run on a pretty burly bike that you will pedal a lot? Thinking I might try 2.5 Trailbears or go to 2.5 Nevegals which I've been running for years on my DH bike. Any tires will be run ghetto tubeless. Of course, ghetto tubeless on the Minions would probably help too ;)

Yentna and I left my house at 5:30am yesterday and drove down to St. George to find some dirt:
The bikes like the Element:

Singlespeeds basking in the sun:

I'm not riding back up this on a SS. Who am I kidding? I'm not riding back up that on anything without a motor.

8-10 hours in the car for 2 hours of riding was totally worth it. :D
Anyway, oddly enough - 3 weeks after knee surgery and my knees are feeling good after climbing on the singlespeed. My hamstrings hurt, and my adductors hurt, and my lats and obliques and hands hurt.... but my knees are pretty good today! And I can't wait to do it again.

it's been sunny and 7C here for a few days, not much fresh in a few weeks, but way to much snow to ride anywhere.......sigh......the desert looks awesome....

Nice work ladies. That sounds like a SLC kayaker's play to drive ratio. Dedicated
2 hours riding around the roads of Sandy yesterday didn't even reveal a decent ledge to jump off that didn't have a deep snowy lip or landing :nonono2:

That dirt looks pretty good. Good luck with your recovery.

Sweet! I'll actually be able to ride on dirt tomorrow, Thursday, Staurday, and Sunday. Things are slightly drier around here, and it'll be just cold enough to firm up the spots that aren't.

Rode in the snow/ice and frozen trails on Sunday, then it promptly rained about 2" on Monday. Snow/ice today and more rain. Can't ski and can't ride, wow isn't PA fun.
In other good news, after I knee'd the bolts in my stem, I've decided (and wife agreed) it's time for an upgrade. Thompson Elite and of course then I need new carbon bar's for my trail bike....
Edit to add: Of course my summer jones for biking isn't as much as the biking here is decent and the skiing sucks, so I'm forced into the better atlernative.

The skiing in PA sucks, but I really liked the biking there.

Adam what fork did your SX come with?
Particle... The SX has a Fox 36 Van fork and a DHX 5 Coil in the back.
Phat... That's one sweet looking Giant. Our big bikes are going to get jealous now that we both have something we can actually pedal.

Thanks, where are the pics of the SX? I'm curious to see how much I use the big bike now. Probably just for pure DH or if I'm scared to try something on the Reign. My car will be happy it doesn't have to carry 2 bikes down south every weekend.

Here ya go. Don't they look cute together? I do think that the SX Trail will get a lot more love this year than the Demo 9. I'm pretty stoked to put these two on top of the WRX and head south this spring. It won't look nearly as impressive as the Altagirls' rig, but few things do.
Speaking of Altagirls, I need to get you two some beer and change these bikes over to ghetto tubeless. I pinch-flatted the Demo six damn times last season. Never again!

...oh yeah, someone please tell me how to post pictures in the damn screen instead of as attachments. I'm gettin' no love...

Is that a medium? I almost bought the exact same bike I saw on KSL classifieds. BTW - I can probably also help you with the ghetto tubeless thanks to UTSG getting me a massive compressor for Xmas.

Alright dude, what did you do? Maybe my computer just hates me. In fact, I'm sure of it. Yeah, that's exactly the same bike you were looking at on KSL. Small world.

This fuckin sucks! The skiing blows and there is too much ice for road tires, but not enough for studs. I have next week off and if the skiing doesn't get better, I may have to head south to find some good riding conditions. Or dodge snowmobiles on the trails with the single speed.

Nice rig Adam! That thing will be a Crest/Moab destroyer. Love seeing all the new bike stoke. Must rehab quickly now...
