View Full Version : Maggot Publications
I've been playing around with the idea of Ski Guides made by the real skiers who ski them for all of the favorite maggot resorts/bc. I know people like their stashes, and particularly in the bc their secrecy. But for those who are willing to write guides or supply pictures, I have been doing my research and 'Maggot Publications' is a definite possibility. A Technical Manual (7.5"x9.25")
5") book with a Colour cover and a Black and White contents can be made easily, with the help of Cafépress. So, if anyone is interested in helping, or has any comments, please leave a message here or email me here (mailto:ski@the-edg.net)

I know some double secret lines at Welch, couple at Afton too. :p
edit - cool idea, sort of a like Gaffney's Squallywood book, but I'm thinking you're gonna have trouble getting people to divulge their secrets...
I felt there might be a trouble with the BC, but most of the inbounds stuff...
For those who may be interested, I've got a preliminary working on it. Lets say the standard book will be 100 pages (Including legal, pictures, index, notes and general information pages) using 'Perfect Binding' (like most Paperbacks) in the size 4.18"x6.88". That will cost $10 base price (i.e. no 'profit'). As a lot of work will go into this, the sales will break down like this...
The books will sell for $15 (Pretty reasonable, I feel), $1.00 (So 10% royalties) of which will go to the author (how this will be sent will have to be arranged later, depending on whether anyone will actual write one of these things). The other $4.00 will go into buying the shop ($60 a year) and any remainder will go into supplying books and perhaps other swag to the minis.
As for the job of the authors - it's not up to you to sort out the formatting of the books, I'll (and if anyone else can help with DTP stuff) take that bit on. You just have to provide information in a clear format (Write one document on lines and access, another on general local info, another on safety precautions, etc...) and preferably supply photos that relate to the lines/area (Though hopefully some photo-maggots will be able to donate stock photos to liven up pages, might be able to arrange some sort of fee for that too?)
Tell me what you think, and please somebody say they'll do one! :D

Although I would probably use such a book, I feel hesitant to contribute with the little knowledge I have of Jay. If I ski with you (universal you), I will most likely show you what I know, but I don't feel right about sending it to print.
Sick and ashamed and happy (and content in my hypocritical glory),
d.
I understand the hesitance, gincognito, but perhaps if someone else (or a even a few others) got together to write a guide for Jay, your contribution could be invaluable :-)

In the vain of facilitating group work over a long period I've set a up a WikiWikiWeb (dumbass name, I know) for the site at http://the-edg.net/mag_pub/pmwiki/pmwiki.php . I will get a domain name registered if someone steps up to attempt a book, but for the minute that will be used :) If you guys just want to try it out and have any questions about it, please do ask :)
