Just found out I'll be needing ACL surgery. How many maggots have had this? Any words of wisdom/caution/encouragement? Send all meds (legal or otherwise) to the elephant kingdom.

Sorry to hear that. You may want to do a search for "knee surgery." Good luck with the recovery.

i won't give you TOO much grief about the search function, because i know 3-letter words like "ACL" (and "DIN") can't be searched. (Hey OWENS - something to think about - seems to be a lot of 3-letter ski words!) :D
but try this link (http://tetongravity.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=9985)
good luck! i have learned so far that, as ski injuries go, this is a good one to have! if you do the surgery soon, you wont even miss any ski days! :D

Thanks.
I remember that thread. A lot of good info there. So how'd it go for you?

Unfortunately, there is no shortage of experience on this board. Myself, Dexter, basom, and britney (and now you) have all whacked our ACLs this year (in that order). Dex and I have now done both knees :(
I think britney's thread had probably the biggest single source of info. For more techy stuff, check out www.emedicine.com
Good luck!

Work out before and after. Concentrate on regaining flexibility after the surgery as soon as the doc allows. Be prepared for ungodly shocks regarding how hard some stuff will be that was natural before.
Work out, work out, work out and keep a good heart.

Thanks, I've been checking Britney's thread. There's a ton of info there to absorb. Is it fun doing PT with a hangover?

About as much fun as it is doing anything with a hangover. And as much fun as it is to take percocet recreationally, when you need it you get sick of it fast. After my two surgeries, I didn't feel much like drinking, either.
Anyway, that sucks Arny. I don't know who I feel worse for, you or the wife and kids who are going to have to put up with you during your miserable first week out of surgery.
Do you have video games? You'll want some.

What really really sucks is that it was his only day of the season. That's beyond sucking, really.

The oldest Babar cub has been begging for a game system since X-mas. So you're saying now might be a good time to cave in? I envision my kids poking at my incision like Maggie poking Bart, "Ow! quit it. Ow! quit it. Ow! quit it." :( And Mrs. Babar will be out banging some young stud with two good knees.:( :( Save your sympathy for me;)

Yeah, only now she'll be in the next room 'cause I'll be incapacitated on percocet on the couch with only one good wheel. I'm like that guy in "Boogie Nights".
