A review: 2008 164 Bro's, stiff flex

me: 5'4", 134 lbs, talent-less hack that likes to go fast :D

Ive only ridden them on demo bindings on firm to variable snow so far....but I can only say good things about these skis.

The stiff flex is definitely better for my preffered style of early season skiing. (ass-hauling, not-many-turns, maching) They have taken everything I have thrown at them so far and will go as fast as I can hurl myself down the mountain. They just plow through variable and chopped up stuff like speeding battleships. Ice....well, I suck on ice anyways, even on my midfats so let's not go there

last year I had a pair of 179 supa softs, and while they were dream-boats in the 2 pow days I skied them, they were just too slappy in the chopped up stuff. The 164 stiffs did not chatter when I was maching, and the shorter length makes them a little easier for me to throw them around.

Friday (my day off) is supposed to be a bigtime blue-bird pow-day in Mammoth. I'll take them out in the pow and in the trees and post a secondary report afterwards. hopefully some pics to add too.

But so far...they are fkna awesome. Way to go PM gear...the fun I've had in the past 3 days has gotten a shit-eating grin permanently stuck to my face. :yourock:

Wow, it is great that pmgear is making bro skis in smaller sizes now. I know a lot of other skiers who might be interested. Good news. I missed that some how.

I had (well, still have) the first generation 188 stiff bros with the crazy extreme camber. They skied OK enough in softer snows but were not so fun on firmer snows. The camber extended way down toward the tip and tail, making edging on firm snows far too variable and too much work. I ended up using them occasionally for backcountry skiing. I now have a set of 188 soft bros with a much more reasonable camber. The overall fit and finish is vastly improved too. And the darn things ski so much better in a variety of conditions. They are surprisingly stable, given their "soft" flex label. There are still few skis of that size with such a good weight to performance ratio. PMgear has really stepped up since my first experience with the bros.

Wife skied the 164s yesterday. Weight and height is 143 and 5'5". Took her about one run on a groomer to get used to the width since up to this point she has mainly skied PRs, Head Monster 75s and BC Scratches. She is a excellent technical skier, but not aggressive so she was a bit worried that the stiffs would be too much for her style of skiing. Not the case at all. I've never seen her ski faster or better for her first day on snow. Easy for her to turn and at the same time the most stable ski she has ever used. Overall, they get top marks for her at this point.

POW report =

pure, unadulterated fun. Awesome float and stability, zippy in the trees, stable, battleship cruisers at mach speeds. PMGear, you've got a winner with this one. The 164 stiffs are my favorite. :yourock:

(sorry no pics yet...)

5 stars.
