I’ve never had the perspective that the top of a mountain could be a prize until this season. It’s been beckoning for weeks now as I stare up from the parking lot unable to get there. It never seemed so far away until now. For weeks now, I’m at the gym every day so hungry for the deep snow to fall and that big beautiful tram to open I’ve actually started fantasizing about it. My fantasies start with the snow falling, like it is today, I wake up to the fluffy stuff in the air that offers the same feeling of Christmas morning and I’m up. From there the anticipation grows as the hustle of the early morning routine begins; skis, pants, boots, hat, gogg’s jacket, pass, …check! Grab a steaming mug of tea and I’m out the door. Then there’s drive in the blizzard, it’s an adventure in itself to make it to the top of the pass without spilling my tea to see just how much really fell. With good tunes blaring I then make the routine stops to pick up friends on the way. One to make sure we’re carpooling and two, to ensure the pow will not be shredded alone. Once at the hill it’s a rush to the VC for an Egg McColister and a latte before securing a spot in the tram line with a hundred other friends who share the same fantasies. Yes, this season may be late in coming but it will not be under appreciated when it gets here. It’s only a few days away now! Cheers to the tram and to truly appreciating the top of Jackson Hole!
