"Lost and Found" Edit Season
By: Hot Tate | Thursday, August 23, 2007
Every spring when the snow starts to melt, pants are replaced with boardies and boots with flip flops. Cameras are flown back from around the world to Wyoming. While most people are out enjoying the summer fun, we're still focused on skiing, deep in powder, spinning off cliffs. Often times we work ourselves into a late night haze. Long evenings are spent arguing over how legit a shot is or what song works best.
Throughout the summer most of the featured athletes come through the TGR edit suite to work on their segments. Dana Flahr drives down from Whistler, Erik Roner stops in a few times (I think mostly for Pica's mexican food), Dylan Hood catches a few good couch waves, and Sage never drives in without his mountain bike.
We like to think that we're working our asses off, and sometimes sitting in an edit suite with no windows isn't fun. But, once the movie is finally done, we all sit back, cheers, have a swig, and enjoy our own private premiere of Lost and Found.

May 1, 2007 - Aspen, CO
Snowcats were busy pushing massive amounts of snow on a run called "sneaky's" located at the 12,000 foot elevation of Snowmass mountain in anticipation of TGR's annual shoot. Once again TGR stormed the notorious ski town hoping to wrap up segments for Dylan Hood, Dash Longe, and Cody Barnhill. Also in attendance were newbee's Mike Riddle (20), Ducan Adams (14), Alex Schlopy (14) and the Standard Films crew. Poor weather keept the crew grounded for the first few days, but the Colorado sun made an appearance for the rest of the shoot allowing us to lift the heli and get the shots! Check out the photos.

TGR in Antarctica !!
By: Chad Jackson | Tuesday, May 01, 2007
TGR ticked off another first in our long list of things we have been lucky enough to do. We had a film premiere of ANOMALY on the South Pole. TGR fan and friend, Emrys Hall, set up a special event for the hard working crew at ARO (atmospheric research observatory). It is run by Emrys and a coworker for NOAA studying long term trends in CO2 and monitoring the ozone hole among many other things. When he last checked in with us he mentioned the temp was -76F which was a lot warmer than the -95F a few weeks before. The crew was stoked to see ANOMALY and take a break from their 9 month lock down on the continent of Antarctica. They say it has to be an annual event from here on out!

Jackson Hole Ends Season with a Bang
By: Chris Dunn | Wednesday, April 11, 2007
Last Day of the Season here in Teton Village was off the hook as usual. Hardcore locals & others gathered at the base of the mountain to celebrate the end of another great winter season in Jackson Hole. Partyers got in the spirit with good music, lots of booze, & some killer costumes. Mike Thunder took the party to a new level as he DJ'd on the TGR balcony, just above all of the madness. People got their groove on just outside of the VC & raged it into the night. Another season & party for the books. They say all good things must come to an end. Well... At least until next year.

JH Night Sessions with the Groms
By: Chris Dunn | Friday, March 23, 2007
The past 2 nights here in Teton Village have been Jibtastic. 2 nights, 2 sick sessions. The first night we trucked in 2 pickups of snow to session the infamous 14 stair hand rail just outside the TGR office. The "night riders" were 9 year old Colby Stevenson, 12 year old Jesse Wells, and Adam Dowell. The following night we brought the lights up to the tram jib and the big kicker in the Jackson Hole park. It was another perfect night to continue the sessions. Mark Carter, Colby Stevenson, & Jesse Wells we're the riders throwing down in this late night session until 1 a.m. No curfew for the groms this week!

GROM Invasion
By: Hot Tate | Wednesday, March 21, 2007
Back in February Todd Jones and myself headed down to Steamboat CO for a contest called "Next Snow Search" featuring little rippers from all over the USA. Our job was to pick one snowboarder and one skier to meet us back in Jackson Hole to film a segment for this years movie "Lost and Found". Well, the time has come and Jesse Wells and Colby Stevenson have arrived! Unfortunately the snow conditions haven't been ideal, but don't tell these kids because they don't seem to care. If there's snow leading up to it, they'll jib it. Today, Chad Jackson and myself followed the kids around with the camera just to see what they could do. Honestly, i don't think we scratched the surface. After ripping up the kiddy terrain park, the boys spotted a stair case rail jib next to the office. So, tonight we're dusting off the shovels and hiding from security guards!
Check back in for more on the GROM invasion.

St Pattys in the Hole
By: Chad Jackson | Monday, March 19, 2007
St. Patricks Day in Teton Village was off the hook. The Jackson Hole Freeskiing Open brought out all the looky-loos as the competitors slayed the course. Some of us took a journey out to St. Pattys Couloir to get a taste of Irish skiing. When all said and done everyone redezvous-ed back at the Village Cafe for an all out spring break rager. It almost felt like the last day but thankfully we still have few weeks.

It's frickin' roasting out here
By: Frank Slaughter | Wednesday, March 07, 2007
Heading out this morning it's hard to believe that I frostbit my cheek less than a week ago. Dropping down Laramie Bowl at about 9:15 am it was already starting to soften from the sun.
Today's crew was Lynsey Dyer, Shroder Baker, and Eric Roner on skis, Rob Kingwill snowboarding, Matt Herriger with the 16 mm film camera, and Chris Bezamat taking the professional stills. As usual, I tagged along to take some snapshots.
The zone for today's filming was supposed to be a quick traverse out from the resort boundary, but somehow we missed a turn. After a quick consultation, we figured out our mistake and began a quick hike back up.

A few crotch-deep postholes and a lot of sweat later we were on top of the day's zone. With a bunch of short, steep chutes and some fairly cold, north-facing snow, the plan was for the athletes to hit several lines, hiking up after each.
Round 1 saw Lynsey, Rob, and Shroder each dropping a different line.
Lynsey

Rob

Shroder

After last week's suffer-fest (for me at least) I didn't mind watching the athletes climb back up while I hung out at the top of the zone. Here's Shroder coming back for seconds.

Rob Kingwill started off round 2 with another cornice drop

Then it was Roner's turn to make use of the takeoff that he'd stomped out. After a straight air to check the run in, Roner threw a huge backflip.

We were starting to pack up when Lynsey came down the hill to let us know that she'd hiked up and spotted another potential line. The crew followed her up and shot that one, too.

Happily, the runout from Lynsey's shot left us with a 2 minute sidestep back in to the resort. After a full day's worth of sun, the ride down to the bottom was slow, soft, and toasty warm. I'm thinking I might need a shower today.

It's frickin' freezing out here
By: Frank Slaughter | Friday, March 02, 2007
Another beautiful morning in Jackson hole today gave TGR's local crew a chance to try to knock off the lines they didn't get to two days ago. The plan was for Lynsey Dyer and Rob Kingwill to ride the Triple Cliffs area on Cody Peak, while Cody Barnhill and Shroder Baker would continue over to the backside of Cody and hit the cliffs next to Once is Enough.
The skies were blue, but they were wicked cold, too. Below zero temps and 20+ mph ridgetop winds combined with a Cody Peak hike that is particularly gnarly this season to put Josh Nielsen's tough-guy index at 4 out of a possible 5.
No pro photographers were around this morning, so that left me as the sole still photographer for the day. I decided to go pig and try to get all the action. I figured I could shoot Rob & Lynsey on Triple Cliffs, then head down No Shadows and back up to the other side in time to catch Cody & Shroder's lines by Once is Enough. With all that rock between me and the rest of the crew, I was out of radio contact, and didn't realize I was too slow until I got to the top.
Cody had already stuck a sick two-stager through the cliffs (I saw the tracks and it was nuts). Shroder cracked off a slab that broke 15 feet above him and hit him in the back. Shroder was certain he was going to be pancaked against the rocks, but fortunately he somehow came out unharmed, although down one ski pole.
Lynsey, Rob, and Shroder decided to make their way over to No Name Cliffs to try for one more shot. The light was in & out, with clouds continually forming off the ridge above us. Ace cinematographer Matt Herriger gave Lynsey the go ahead when a blue hole finally came through, but a slab released at her feet on her second turn. Lynsey fought to hold it together over the cliff, and when the powder cloud settled she was standing up, disgusted but unhurt.
Rob decided to give No Name Cliffs one more shot, but the snow let go just as he hit his takeoff, and he couldn't spot his landing in the cloud. With the clouds getting thicker, and no letup in the cold, we decided to pack it in for the day.
I'm gonna sleep for the whole weekend. Who would have thought that joining the paparazzi would be so hard??

Code Blue in Jackson
By: Frank Slaughter | Thursday, March 01, 2007
The last day of February saw TGR's Jackson crew finally get a bluebird day with fresh snow and good coverage. Athletes Eric Themel (visiting from Austria), Cody Barnhill, Dylan Hood, and Shroder Baker rode up the early gondola to go filming. With Matt Herriger & Josh Nielsen shooting 16 mm film, and Wade McCoy & Greg Von Doersten shooting stills, the action was pretty well covered. I took a day off from calling meetings and acting officious and tagged along to take some snapshots.
The crew gathered at the beginning of the Cody Peak hike (Coach's Corner, according to Josh) to plan the day. Starting with the "cave air" off Cardiac Ridge, moving up to Triple Cliffs off Cody Peak, and then continuing to Jib Rock on the Powder 8 Face, the athletes threw down some impressive lines. We'll know for sure when the film comes back, but it should go a long way towards "covering" that aspect of Cody Peak for this year's film - "Lost and Found."
We re-gathered at the bottom of the Powder 8 Face and decided to hike up and over, to try to get some lines around Once is Enough on the other side of Cody. Unfortunately, by the time everyone got to the top, the blue skies were gone and winter had returned. With the light too flat for further filming, we called it a day and floated down through chest-deep snow on the Powder 8 Face.
I think we got spoiled the past few years with killer early-season snow, but everyone at TGR is breathing a sigh of relief now that we're starting to get it done here on our home hill.
