Benny Wilson, son of Colby Wilson of Cleveland, OH. Colby was convinced by Paul McCollister to build in Teton Village, WY so Colby rounded up fifty partners and built the Hostel X, a new concept in ski lodging –inexpensive. At $10 for 4 people the Hostel became a sort of Ellis Island for ski bums around the country to come and test themselves against the toughest mountain in the country, and thus dawned the home that nurtured Benny. For Benny’s 8th birthday he got a jumping lesson with Pepi Steigler, 1963 Olympic Gold Medalist. Benny was a standout early on, becoming the Junior Amateur Gelande champion. Benny grew up and terrorized Teton Village, his group of friends were dubbed the Teton Village Mafia for their antics on and off the slopes. After a brief stint of discipline in the Marine Corp, Benny returned home to become the Mad Hatter of Teton Village and grew to epitomize the ski bum lifestyle. He lost his ski pass every season until he joined ski school in the 90’s. As the primary founder of the Air Force, Benny has stayed true to the counter culture he conjured and still skis 120 days a year. Benny is the ultimate manifestation of choosing to live an alternative lifestyle.
